RALP Chapter 64

The door behind him closes, and Du You has left Qin Ge’s home.

The system’s heightened senses are finally calming down, and remarks, “what a scare.”

Du You recalls the promise just now about eating roast chicken and assures him, “are you afraid of animals with sharp beaks? It’s alright, the head is removed from roast chickens.”

“The heck? I’m talking about Qin Ge,” says the system.

Just saying his name almost made it paranoid as if Qin Ge can hear it, and it looks around warily.

It decides to mentally project its messages instead [I thought you wouldn’t be able to leave today]

It felt that Qin Ge was this close to losing control when it heard its host reject his offer to stay. Qin Ge would make Du You stay by force and do this and that to him.

Although it is not sure which of the two of them is more powerful.

Du You did not hear its thoughts clearly in the latter half [Do what and what?]

System [Do… uhm, do…]

It can’t seem to find the right words, so instead it decides to change the topic [Nevermind. Let’s go home]

Du You is already at his own mansion now.

He has switched off the lights before he went out so the house is still dark, but when he switches it back on, he can hear some noise inside.

Is Ryan awake already?

He goes into the living room. Ryan is still lying on his side on the sofa. His eyes are shut and his brows are in a deep furl. There is a layer of sweat on his forehead.

His whole body is really red as well.

Du You tries touching him and find him boiling. This is likely what humans would call a fever.

“A vet…”

“I told you you can’t!” Yells the system.

Plus the werewolf currently has his ear and tail out in his human form. If he sent him to a hospital he would probably scare the hell out of the doctors.

To attempt to get a better grasp of the situation the system decides to quickly go through ‘Take a Lover Home to Make Babies’ and search for ‘fever’ and other related terms. It understands now.

When a werebeast is severely injured, it is possible for them to develop fever-like symptoms in their recovery.

In the book, this occurred as a plot device to allow the Bottom to show his gentle and caring side taking care of downed werebeasts and to prove how he is not just there mooching off the tribe.

Though apparently Ryan has never ever had such a strong fever. It is probably because he has never been wounded to this degree before.

It’s probably a lost cause to teach its host patient care though. It would be better if he went to sleep instead.

The system is going to urge its host to head upstairs when he asks, “will he cool down if I throw him into cold water?”

The system gasps, “of course not! Are you trying to kill him?!”

Perhaps they were a bit too loud and the werebeast seems to be waking up. He’s moaning quietly.

Du You falls into thought for a bit before recalling something, and walks into the kitchen.

He walks to the fridge. The big, double-panel fridge is usually only used by the auntie.

He opens the uppermost section, above the meat where he finds a tray of ice cubes.

He takes them and grabs a clean towel from the bathroom, wrapping the ice in it.

The system is surprised to see its host act so normally, since he has never been sick and so it has never had to teach him that.

“How did you learn about this?”

“From the anime.”

The anime?

The system remembers now, how there was this one episode in the long series when the female lead falls sick and the second male lead is there to take care of her.

As for why it wasn’t the male lead? Because gentle and caring work is reserved for the second male protagonist.

Du You goes back to the living room and turns Ryan’s body over, making him face upwards, before putting the towel with the ice cubes inside onto his forehead.

Then he walks into the kitchen. This time, he opens the lower compartment.

It is quite neatly organised, courtesy of the auntie.

“Host, you can’t possibly be thinking…”

It can recall that in the anime the second male lead also cooked porridge while caring for the female lead. While its host is a master of making cup noodles, he has never made anything else.

Can he really handle such a challenge right off the bat?

Even if just thinking about the fire safety, it can’t let its host go on, “should we, maybe call up auntie for her to come?”

It’s quite late for sure, but it can’t be helped it’s kind of an emergency. The auntie lives close by anyway.

Du You pauses, then shakes his head, “she is a woman, so it will not do.”

It will not do?

The system is confused. Did he think perhaps it would be bad for the auntie to head out alone late at night?

That is when it sees its host take out a length of spring onion, feeling it in his hand.

“What are you trying to make with spring onions?”

Du You closes the fridge, “I am going to push it in from under him.”

“Pu-, push it in?”

Wait. What is its host trying to do again?

It swallows out of nervousness, “and by under him you mean…”

“His anus,” replies Du You.

The system chokes and coughs viciously, not even being able to speak properly. It can only stare blankly as its host walks back into the living room and kneels in front of Ryan.

“Stooooooooop!” The system yells as if its life depended on it.

Du You, ready to pull his pants down, “?”

The system is finally coherent enough to speak now, “you, I mean, where did you-, why are you trying to push the spring onion inside?”

“From the anime,” Du You replies, and explains, “it can treat fevers.”

“Wh-, what’s the name of the anime…?”

Du You recalls for a bit and answers, “‘Gag Manga Getsuyori.'”

“Don’t take anything from a gag manga seriously!”

Ryan furrows his brows and opens his eyes due to the disturbance. He sees someone kneeling in front of him.

He is holding a long stick in his left hand, and has put his right hand on his waist just above his pants.

Enemy attack.

His vision is blurred and unfocused and it is all a mess. His nose is also stuffy so he does not realise who it is.

He wants to fight back in reflex, but his body is still so heavy he can’t move at all.

Du You receives a series of scolding and finally gives up on it.

He looks back to see the werebeast awake, and asks, “how are you feeling?”

It’s a familiar voice. Ryan squints his eyes and looks really hard when finally, the several silhouettes converge into one and he realises who it is.

He opens his mouth to try and speak but his throat is parched. He runs his tongue over his equally dry lips.

Perhaps it is due to the great amount of sweat he has perspired.

Du You notices the coarseness in his voice and looks over to the kettle and cups on the coffee table.

He turns one overturned cup over, and pours a cup of water into it and puts it to Ryan’s mouth.

But he does not take a drink. Instead, he is just looking at him fixedly as he squeezes the words out.

This time, they can hear it clearly.

“… I’m… sorry.”

His coarse voice is very different from his usual crisp tone.

“I should… have listened. I should not… have ran about.”

Then he wouldn’t have been inexplicably bewitched and even attack Du You. He has committed a most unforgivable atrocity as a male.

Du You puts the cup back, then replies, “it’s alright.”

It is not something he should apologise for.

He did not allow Ryan to go out because he thought he would make a ruckus. While that is exactly what happened today, but at least before Xiao Tiantian appeared, Ryan himself did not make any trouble.

In fact, he was first brainwashed by ‘plot correction’ then beaten to a pulp by him. He sure has had a bad day.

And since Ryan is more or less awake now, Du You thinks he deserves to know what happened after that as he was a victim, then concludes, “Xiao Tiantian is gone now. So you can go home soon.”

“Go home…” Ryan murmurs, repeating the phrase as he stares at the ceiling, then he looks over to Du You, “I don’t want to.”

Don’t want to?

Du You gives it a thought before thinking he’s got it.

While he hasn’t personally seen how the ‘Werebeast World’ looked like, but given that Ryan doesn’t wear upper clothing and have such a simple, perhaps rather primitive understanding of romance——The world is likely undeveloped, or at least severely backwards.

It’s the same way he doesn’t want to go back to the apocalypse. Ryan is also probably impressed by this world.

Du You tells him, “you can stay if you want.”

Ryan’s brain is all mushy as he is still running a high fever.

He does not react much to Du You’s words. His eyes are clouded over as he stares at the ceiling above.

He wants to take Du You away, but not in the sense it was before.

Werebeasts are simple creatures. Both males and females, as long as they agreed on the spot, can immediately get married and produce strong offsprings.

So he does not understand why it is so complicated for humans, the same way he doesn’t really seem to understand his own emotions right now.

He likes Du You.

He likes his appearance, and especially his strength.

For werebeasts, offsprings are everything. So the first time he had a clear view of Du You, he decided he wanted him to be his lover.

But of course there must be a mutual agreement, and Du You definitely does not seem willing at all.

If so, then why didn’t he just finish him off back there? Why did he bring him back?

While he was bewitched, but the memories are still there, vivid as if burnt straight into his mind.

It was a fierce battle. It lasted for a long time.

Not because the two were equally matched, but because one was attacking with everything on the line, while the other has always restrained himself, even constraining from issuing orders like ‘stop attacking.’

The simple werebeast does not understand this complicated course of action.

He could have ended it, but he chose to do it in such a messy and roundabout way.

He doesn’t understand; however…

Ryan looks back at Du You, “were you… trying to pull down my pants?” He is still speaking rather slowly.

While he doesn’t understand how his thoughts have jumped all the way over there, but Du You nods honestly.

“… why?” Ryan tries to force a smile, “I told you, that I can only show you if you marry me.”

“Ah.”

Du You recalls now.

He did say that before. Upper bodies are fine, but lower bodies are reserved for their respective lovers.

He reassures him, “don’t worry, I haven’t done it.”

System [That’s not the issue is it!]

Ryan raises his right arm with great difficulty, touching Du You’s pants, “I want to… take that back.”

“We are… not in the tribe now.”

His arm loses strength after this and falls back down, “but, you have to wait… until I’m better.”

The werewolf is still hot to the touch. There are sweat drops all over his abdomen and chest, rising and falling with his breath.

Du You glances over at the spring onion he’s still holding, “you won’t need to when you’re better.”

Just now the system has informed him this treatment is fake. It is only a gag.

Ryan seems to freeze hearing that.

“Must, must it be now?” He asks, stuttering as well as slurring.

TL’s notes: The note’s just an image this time. It’s kind of hard to superimpose the mental images I have of Du You and Ryan onto it though, sadly.

  1. Sorry i got carried away. MC is very lovely and I can see he is trying hard to have common sense. But I just really hate the feeling ‘you are being like but in reality you are not’.
