RALP Chapter 59.1

Xiao Tiantian’s whole body is shaking.

He cannot believe that this unbelievably clingy man would have forgotten him in just half a month.

That is when the werewolf lowers his head until his nose was just in front of his bangs and gives it a light sniff.

Xiao Tiantian’s petite face goes red, and pushes him away forcefully, “what are you even doing? You don’t even remember me and yet you’re still trying to do this to me?”

What did he mean by ‘this’?

For Ryan this was a normal, well-justified action. But he finally does recall the person’s identity through his scent.

“Ah, you’re Xiao Tiantian,” he looks quite happy, “how have you been?”

Xi-, Xiao Tiantian?!

He is calling him by name???

He used to always be like a puppy and spin around calling him ‘lover,’ ‘lover,’ what in the world happened?

He stares at the werewolf, but he does not seem to understand his gaze.

Xiao Tiantian cannot help but ask, “why do you call me that?”

“?” Ryan does not understand, “I thought that was your name.”

“But,” Xiao Tiantian wraps his hands around his delicate shoulders to calm himself down in a protective shell-like stance, “you never used to call me that.”

He bites his lips almost to the point of blood, “didn’t you want to take me back to your tribe and make me your… lover?”

He couldn’t help but be slightly embarrassed saying the last bit out loud. His eyelashes are slightly trembling as they close up, ever so slightly.

Ryan tells him, “I’ve lost interest in you.”

Xiao Tiantian’s eyes shoot open, his face as pale as a brand new piece of paper, “what, what did you just say?”

Ryan clarifies, “I’ve found a new lover.”

A new lover?

How would that even be possible! How in the world could this werebeast ever fall in love with anyone other than him.

“Ha, ha, please stop joking,” he forces himself into a chuckle, “since you left home that day I’ve been looking for you. You can’t dawdle around in the human world, you know?”

Then, he extends his hand to hold hands with the werewolf, “don’t worry, I’ll protect you. Let’s go home.”

But this time, Ryan does not comply.

“No. I need to go find my lover now.”

Xiao Tiantian exclaims, exasperated, “but I am your lover!”

His voice was accidentally raised loud enough for the passers-by to hear, who all look curiously in the direction of the two.

Ryan seem surprised by what he said, and scratches his head, “but you hated it when I called you that.”

Back in the tribe, he carried the unconscious Xiao Tiantian home, but he was firmly rejected, again and again when he told him he wanted him to be his lover.

Although he was staying in his place, he never accepted his proposal.

He is unable to comprehend why he suddenly reversed his attitude.

Xiao Tiantian is choking on his words.

Of course he couldn’t accept it at first. In the werebeast world his character was supposed to be a cold, unapproachable beauty.

So, at first, he would definitely have been repulsed by the werewolf’s advances, until his icy demeanour is eventually warmed up to by the passionate, fiery werebeast, and he would come to terms with it.

Who could have known that the werewolf would have his heart stolen away by someone else before they even got to engage in the sacred ritual of life (TL: Read ‘procreation’)?

Ryan smiles at the young man who has fallen silent, “don’t worry, I will not trouble you any further. I’ll be heading off.”

He is worried Du You would move somewhere else again, so he is in a bit of a hurry.

Xiao Tiantian feels thunderstruck hearing that. He tries to extend his hand to block him, but he is moving too quickly, blending into the crowd in less than a few seconds before disappearing altogether.

As expected of a seasoned hunter, he made his movement either in someone’s blind spot or where one paid no attention to.

Therefore, while a small handful of people are rubbing their eyes in confusion, most of the people do not seem surprised or care what happened, and so the few that did react do not speak up either.

Xiao Tiantian’s soft, fragile arm hangs in midair, still in the posture of trying to get ahold of someone.

But that someone has abandoned him to search for a certain ‘lover.’

How could this have happened?

No matter how much he rejected him before, he would never give up. He was supposed to cling to him to the end of the world, but now, it is actually looking like, he might have to turn around and plead with him?

And it’s not just Ryan either. This seems to be the case with all the members of the Top.

Not one person was looking for him. It is as if everyone has moved past this wonderful person, and started to have their own lives.

Xiao Tiantian is baleful now. His teeth finally punctures his rosy lips and bloodies his cute, cherry-sized mouth.

The attack from X last time and his escape from him has cost him greatly in points already.

He thought he would use this time to finish off some small missions to get more points before going after that supposed ‘gege,’ but now it looks like drastic measures will have to be taken.

And if his intuition was correct, this so-called ‘gege’ is the same person the werewolf calls ‘lover.’

When he thinks about how Shen Chen, You Haoyu, and even Du You, like those two, have perhaps been enchanted by some seductive white lotus, he can feel the pain in his heart.

They were all supposed to be people that would ‘fuse together’ for his sake!

The streets are lively as always, but Xiao Tiantian just feels as if he is only by himself in this world.

Helpless, detached, isolated.

None of the boisterous roars or hearty laughs can he hear.

But he calms down after that brief outburst of rage.

Because, with his clever mind, he has come up with an excellent countermeasure in just a few minutes.

Since he does not know how the ‘white lotus’ plans to strike, he will draw him out to him.

While it is not exactly an honourable plan, but Xiao Tiantian feels that that is fine by this point.

His crimson lips perk upwards.

Since, he is already blackened; tainted, isn’t he.

He turns around, his stride confident, his form disappearing into the crowd, becoming part of the insignificant rabble.

The next time he appears, will be the day of reckoning!

The sun continues to cast its bright rays from the clear skies into the room of the private patient’s ward; however, it is not helping any with the freezing temperature inside, as if they’ve fallen into an igloo.

System [What you just said was bound to be misunderstood, host!]

“Oh, right,” Du You clarifies himself, in the loosest sense of the word ‘clarify,’ “to try to go out.”

Then he looks at the crumpled box in Shen Chen’s hands, “do you not like profiteroles?”

While the box is beyond help, the profiteroles are still well and alive inside——That’s what you would call cream still firmly surrounded by a layer of pastry, right?

Shen Chen is silent.

He wants to know what happened.

How did Du You end up ‘trying out’ with the person when he told him to distance himself from him.

Could it be that Du You was already feeling something for the person?

The man is in such a state of dismay he didn’t even hear the question clearly.

Du You did not mind not getting a response and starts eating the profiteroles on his own.

A few minutes later, Shen Chen has calmed down somewhat, “… why?”

Du You answers, “I thought you didn’t like the profiteroles when you crumpled up the box.”

Who in the world cares about that.

Shen Chen squeezes the bridge of his nose. He feels like his head is throbbing more and more recently, “why did you accept such a dumb proposal in the first place?”

It’s the review session he wanted, so Du You puts the profiteroles down and asks, “was it wrong?”

“You would just make him think he still has a chance like this…” Shen Chen doesn’t even know if he is speaking out of objective analysis or subjective selfishness, “I told you, that rejections must be firm. Any more hesitation in your actions will just drag him down further and further.”

Du You is frightened how his solution is apparently pushing the situation in a worse direction, and tries to salvage it, “but it is only for a week. He said he would give up after that.”

Just for a week?

Shen Chen’s anxiety is somewhat alleviated.

Perhaps it is not as big a problem as it seemed if it had a time limit.

But since Du You just accepted the proposal as is, did it mean he still did care what the person thought deep in his mind?

His appetite for dessert is also gone by this point.

He puts the box of profiteroles on the bed.

Then, he raises his head and looks at Du You, asking, “would you have agreed to ‘try’ to go out with whoever asked?”

If so, did he also have a chance?

He can’t help but tighten his fists and want to ask him exactly that, but, Du You, in the end, hears an entirely different question from him.

“If so… Then you are being too much of a pushover.”

“…”

Wait, what in the world did he just say?

Shen Chen feels like he wants to smash his head into a wall, but he still acts as if he is calm and collected in front of Du You, though his gaze has shifted to the crumpled box of profiteroles.

A cloud passing by the sun has dimmed the room, and the atmosphere seems to cool down even further.

That is when Du You replies, “I see, I will be reflecting.”

Shen Chen is surprised by the answer and snaps to look at him, as Du You actually is looking troubled.

Du You does not know love; in fact, as a monster, he does not even know basic human interactions, nor has he any idea of what counts as ‘acceptable’ behaviour for humans.

“But I have already made a promise this time. I can assure you I will never do it again,” Du You tries to get his approval, “how does that sound?”

Shen Chen does not reply.

What do you mean ‘how does that sound.’ It’s not really even his place to say anything in the first place.

He was even trying to sneakily subvert the plan of the other person. If he could ‘try to go out,’ then he should also be able to do that.

But he really doesn’t have the courage to admit to something like that.

“I…”

When he wants to say something, an alarm goes ‘ding ding’ in the room.

Du You takes out his phone and wipes it after a cursory glance.

“Wasn’t that a phone call?”

Du You puts his phone away, “it’s my alarm.”

“You have plans after this?”

“It’s eleven minutes already.”

Shen Chen “???”

“Thank you for your advice and time today,” Du You stands up, “have a good rest.”

“!”

Wait, wait wait, wait wait wait, sure he completely blundered and shot himself in the leg with ‘eleven minutes’ last time, but you didn’t have to be that literal, did you? The heck is with setting an alarm?!

Shen Chen reflexively grabs the person’s arm seeing him turn to leave.

Du You pauses, and turns his head around.

Shen Chen can’t help but panic even more when he locks eyes with the gray pupils, “um, you remember right? My father is bringing a meal to you.”

“I can wait outside.”

“…” Shen Chen is speechless. After a brief struggle with himself, he tells him, “I suppose you could wait here if you want to.”

Du You is appreciative, “then I will sit and don’t worry, I’ll be quiet.”

The visit last time has taught him that Shen Chen is always busy with work, and he is not someone who can slack off like him, so he must not waste his time.

Shen Chen really wanted to tell him that he could talk all he wants to, but keeping him inside already took the life out of him, so he just nods noncommittally before letting go.

Du You takes a seat at the sofa by the wall, and Shen Chen puts his laptop back on his lap to finish up the work.

Though he is far less concentrated than before, his attention drifting towards Du You at every opportunity.

He shakes his head, trying to focus.

Another ‘ding,’ this time from Shen Chen’s phone.

More contacts from work? But Shen Chen looks at his phone to realise it’s a message from his father.

[How is it going? I’ll try to delay as much as I can so get at him, boy! I’ll be cheering. Heart.jpg]

Shen Chen’s fingers pause, and he glances over at Du You again.

He is looking at his phone.

Is he talking with someone?

Shen Chen’s face goes slightly gloomy. He does not reply to his father’s message.

TL’s notes: Just suddenly realised I haven’t given a recommendation in a while, so here goes.《穿越之靈植師》(Transmigration: Qi Botanist) (Given I can’t find its jjwxc page it’s fine to post it directly, right…?) Oh and, for the first time, this is actually on NU as The Spiritual Plant Master Transmigration, but the updates have stopped apparently. I recommend it as one of the rare cultivation novels I actually am invested enough to finish. It doesn’t have overly spectacular fights or anything like that, but the MC, ML etc. does grow in strength. There are some endearing characters whose fates we never learned in the end which was unsatisfying to me, but otherwise it’s good enough. I won’t take over because cultivation, but yeah, if you enjoy those stories I think you’ll find this an enjoyable read as well. Not for learners of Chinese of course due to the massive amount of faux-classical faux-ancient Chinese.
